Luke walked through the Foundation, papers in hand. He frowned as he read the report on the newest kid: Alex Johnson. The boy had shown up a few days ago, wearing jeans and long t-shirts, which wasn't totally unusual, but he was also skittish, not trusting anyone, and it was reported that a couple of suspicious bruises had been found on the kid's body. Man. Poor kid. He's probably scared to death,' he thought to himself. But who or what scared him so bad?
Luke sighed. He really needed to talk to someone about this. But who? Marina maybe? If she wasn't busy with Trenton or Diana, he could probably talk to her. Oh sure, he could talk to one of the other workers at the Foundation, but they didn't know about his past with Selena. All they knew was that he and Marina were brother and sister and that he had wanted to help people. They didn't know how he had be degraded at Selena's hands. And if it was up to him, they would never know. It wasn't any of their business. Luke bit his lip in concentration as he continued to peruse the papers. There had to be some clue in this file that could tell him how he could help this kid. There had to be...

Walking through the halls, Mari sighed and massaged her temples. There was just so much going on in her life right now and she didn't even know where to start. Everything else was going chaotic and she just did not know how to handle it. She needed to focus on Luke and how he was doing. She could tell he'd been upset and was in need of some time to sort things out. Rounding the corner she smiled. "Hey there. Got time for lunch and a chat? You look like you have the whole world on your shoulders." she said gently to him as she looked at him with concern.
Walking over to him she glanced at the papers he was holding, Alex Johnson, the kid that came in a week ago. She frowned sadly, "Looks like the kid could use someone to talk to. You feel up to it, Luke?" she asked gently. She looked into his eyes and sat down across from him to give him a few moments to collect himself. They actually did look a lot like real siblings and many people thought they were. A fact she never corrected them on because she felt that in a lot of ways Luke was a lot closer to her than her biological siblings. They had been through similar things and Luke seemed to know what to say after her father had attacked her. He knew how violated she had felt and still could feel when the memories came up.
He didn't judge her he was simply there for her. "I'll tell you my troubles if you tell me yours." it was almost a game they had. One of them started but they always knew it was tit for tat. No judgements just acceptance.

Luke was so intent on the papers he was looking at that he didn't realize that Marina had come up until she spoke, mentioning lunch and having a talk. Almost as she had willed it, his stomach growled. "Now that you mention it, lunch would be a good idea," he agreed. She was always good at putting things in perspective for him, especially since she knew what it was like to be violated...unfortunately. Just the thought of what Reginald had done to Marina made Luke want to hit something---even today. Okay, maybe he had some anger issues he wasn't aware of.
Marina came closer and looked at the top sheet. Then she mentioned that the boy could probably use someone to talk to and asked if he was up to it. "Honestly...I don't know," he answered with a sigh. "I mean, he's been here a while and hasn't really opened up to anyone, and I don't want to force him to talk." That, and he wasn't sure if he was ready to admit to anyone besides Marina what had happened to him. He had spent the last ten years trying to forget, why would he want to relive it now?
Luke graced Marina with a small smile when Marina offered to him her troubles if he told her his. "I don't know.. I guess...it's Alex. Just brining up bad memories," he responded with a shrug. "So, where do you want to go for lunch, or do you want to order in?" he asked. Oh, he wasn't dodging her question, but if they were going to have a heavy discussion, he could it have it better on a full stomach.

"No good fretting on an empty stomach. It causes ulcers." she said gently as she sat across from him in a chair and spoke with him, relaxing as best she could in his office.
"I can understand that. Its hard to try and broach such a subject without risking triggering bad memories. Perhaps you can see what his hobbies are? Maybe see if you can connect on that level first." she said softly, "Sometimes revaluations come out at the oddest of times. You just have to be patient."
"Lets go out. It always helps me if I have a fresh place to go to. That way it gives me a bit of distance from my memories." she said gently. She patted his shoulder than went to fetch her purse, "Its normal for your memories to trigger given Alex's situation. The best thing you can do is see what it is that your head is trying to tell your heart, Luke. Your experiences give you a wisdom and an instinct on how to approach others." she said gently as she waited for him and they made their way to his car.

Luke managed a small smile as Marina said that fretting on an empty stomach caused ulcers. She probably hadn't meant to be funny, but he had found the statement funny anyways. When she continued, saying that she understood where he was coming from on not wanting to trigger bad memories for Alex and that maybe he could try to figure out what the boy's hobbies were, he nodded. "That's a good idea. He's been a bit skittish, not that I can blame him, but maybe some casual conversations first will make him more at ease," he mused. Heck, it had taken him some time to warm up to Marina and even longer before he had admitted to her what he had gone through.
At Luke's question, Marina replied that they should go out stating that a new place often helped her as it helped her distance herself from her own memories, thus giving her a new perspective. "Yeah, a new perspective would be nice," Luke agreed. Then Marina went on to say that his memories cropping up was perfectly normal given the situation and that he should follow what his head and heart were telling him and that his experiences gave him a special insight in how to deal with others. "Yeah, I know. I just hope I can help him," Luke sighed as he made sure he had his wallet in his jeans' pocket. He went to the door and opened it, waiting for Marina to go first.

"That's the best way to approach it. Keep an eye out on his body language and watch for signs of stress and steer the conversation away from them." she said softly as she nodded to him.
"You'll be fine. Don't worry so much. If you worry and treat him like broken glass he's just going to retreat inwards. Just hang out a bit. Maybe shoot some hoops or watch a game together. Something that makes him feel he has control of the situation." she offered as they walked to his car and she slid into the passenger side door, closing it and putting on her seatbelt.
They drove to the restaurant in silence for a bit, Mari letting Luke think over what she had said rather than barrage him with advice. Her own thoughts she remained silent on for the moment not wanting to distract him from driving.
Getting out of the car they grabbed a seat in a Mexican restaurant that wasn't overly crowded but the food was excellent. She picked a spot that had no one around where they could talk in private and drank tamarind juice while they waited for their order. Her brow was slightly furrowed and she appeared to be wrestling with something internally. A soft sigh escaped her as she switched to her water to keep from finishing her drink before their food arrived. She smiled as the waitress put chips and salsa in front of them and thanked the woman in Spanish as she went off with their orders. She looked down at her plate and pushed her food around a bit and seemed more interested in helping him with his problems than in articulating her own. Luke, however knew this ploy and how to get past it.
Years of Mari not eating when something was bothering her had taught her family the signs for when she really needed to talk. Though she herself never saw the subconscious signs of stress.

Luke nodded in agreement when Marina said that he had the right way to approach things---by studying the boy's body language. "Yeah, I hope so," he said. He then nodded in agreement when she reminded him not to treat the boy like broken glass which would just result in the boy turning inward and that he might like shooting hoops. "You're probably right," he agreed. Then, they went to his car, where Luke got in, started the ignition, and went until they reached a Mexican restaurant that they both enjoyed.
Once inside, they went to a table that would allow them some privacy. A few minutes later, the waitress came up and they gave their order and after they got their food some moments later, they were left alone. As he ate, Luke watched as Marina just pushed her food around her place, a sign that something was bothering her. He looked at her with some confusion. What was bothering her? "What's wrong?" he asked after a while.

"There has been a lot going on...I'm not sure where to start. There is an evil angel named Pyriel who is hoping to take over the world. We're going to have to convince him not to or to defeat him." she said softly as she set her fork down and looked at him, "Logan came back. I've never seen someone come back from heaven but he did. He said he was here to help talk to Pyriel so he's going to be wandering about from time to time." she said softly as she looked up at him. She exhaled softly and bit her lip, "I'm glad he's here but he's got a purpose so I've got to stay focused on that."
She took a sip of her water and looked down, "I'm still dating Trenton but I don't even know where that is going. I mean I'm an angel and I don't know if I CAN get in a physical relationship much less with a vampire. That and the thought of sex is just..." she went white and physically shuddered, "Just the thought of it...." she shook her head, "After how I grew up I just don't know if I can..." she stammered and bit her lip gripping her fork. Her eyes looked wide and she shook. Goose bumps were on her arms as she gripped her glass and took a quiet drink. The clink of her ice cubes let him know she was still scared.
"I told Trent all of this but it still upsets me. I started having nightmares again. I don't know what it means and then the last time I spent time with Trent and we were alone I could sense other vampires in the area and Trent gave me a potion to help me block them. But it allowed me to see Trent's memories. I saw some of the things he's done. It was pretty scary." she exhaled, "There is just so much going on Luke. I'm just trying to absorb it all. Then there was this elder vampire named Lidija who showed up in Bloodlust." She rubbed her arms quietly as she tried to focus herself a bit more.
She felt her shoulders slump, "I'm so confused, Luke. I was born human. Then I find out I'm different and I'm an angel and I'm supposed to help people but I don't know how to manage the balance. Am I supposed to just focus on being an angel or am I allowed to be human at all? I mean Sam and Lana got married but I don't...know if I can have anything like that really." she murmured softly. Her voice was sad and soft. Her eyes looked like she might cry.

Luke sat back as Marina told him that a lot had been going on. His eyes widened at the news of an evil angel. Seriously? It wanted to take over the world? "Good luck," he said only half scoffing when Marina said that they were going to try to talk the angel Pyriel out of trying to destroy the world. See, this was why he didn't delve into the Supernatural all that much. Everything always went South. He didn't need that kind of trash in his life.
Then he felt his jaw drop. Logan had come back from Heaven? How? "How are you doing with that?" he wondered. This has to be killing her. They were so close and she was devastated when he went away, he thought to himself. When she mentioned that she and Trenton were still together, he rolled his eyes. "Well, that's pretty much a given," he stated. He had seen them hanging around each other and it hadn't taken a whole lot for him to put two and two together. He then listened sympathetically as she confessed that she didn't know where things were going.
Luke looked at her in concern when she couldn't even finish her sentence about her opinion on sex and ended up white knuckling her fork. She watched as she took a drink to calm herself. "I get it. Heck, I haven't even had sex since I escaped from Selena," he reminded her, reaching over to put a comforting hand on her wrist. While to most people that would've seemed weird, to him it made perfect sense. For so long sex had been used as a weapon against him. It was for that reason that he couldn't get into just hooking up with some random girl. That wasn't to say that he hadn't been on dates. He had been on plenty of those. He just hadn't found someone he felt that he could trust with his darkest secrets.
So she had told Trenton everything? Well, that made sense. The two were extremely close. At the news that she was having nightmares again and had felt a different vampire close by when talking to Trenton, Luke frowned. That didn't sound good. Though, he was glad that the vampire had given the woman a way to block out the intruder. At the mention of seeing Trenton's memories, Luke's jaw dropped. "Like...you were inside his head? That must have been strange," he commented and then nodded when she went onto say that she was just trying to absorb everything. "I can understand that," he told her.
Then he looked at her sympathetically as she stated that she was confused about who was she was and what she was supposed to do. He let out a sigh as his eyes clouded. What could he say? He was just a human. There was no way he could help her with something like this. "I'm---I'm not sure how to help you," he admitted with a small shrug.

"I don't know what is going to happen. It seems like we're just going to have to carry on as we always have." she admitted as she looked at her drink and watched the water bead up on the glass.
"He doesn't even remember his past life. Its unnerving. His movements, his actions. I'm just a human with wings but he doesn't even have normal human reactions, Luke and it freaks me out. I mean he's good hearted but he's so unused to having a human form its just...unnerving. I don't know how to explain it." she exhaled and was glad she had never developed a taste for drink or she would be knocking back shots at 1PM.
She nodded and relaxed a bit more when he said that. "Its just so hard. I mean yes, Michael healed me but...well I don't...its hard to know when the only experiences you have are not good ones." she got out slowly. "And most of the time...I'm just too busy to even think about it." she worked really hard and rarely took breaks. Which is why she ended up falling asleep at Trent's when she did visit.
"Yes, and it was just not someplace I want to be Luke. Its rude and intrusive and just not right. I felt like a peeping Tom. No one should be able to pry into another's thoughts. Its just not right." she admitted as she looked at him, "I just wanted to be normal, Luke. I wanted kids and a family and all the craziness that comes with it. I didn't want all the responsibility and things that go bump in the night. I mean I'm not anyone special. I'm just trying to make sure that kids don't go through what I did or what you did. That's all. I'm not brave or strong or any of those things that some of the people we know are. I'm just...me."
"I just needed to talk to someone. Things always settle themselves, Luke. The chance to talk to someone is good. To not feel like I'm crazy or wonder if I'm going to wake up in a padded room in an I love me jacket one morning, and find out that everything was just me having a psychotic break because someone passed me the peas." she murmured as she relaxed across from him a little bit at a time. "I just need the chance to breathe sometimes." she admitted as they sat there.

Luke nodded as Marina admitted that she didn't know what was going to happen and that they would just have to carry on as they always did. "That can be hard sometimes," he admitted. Boy could it ever! They were all going through so much. He then refocused on Marina as she went on to talk about Logan saying that he was unnerving her because he didn't seem to have any human reactions---that he was just all angel. What do I say to that? he wondered. Was she even looking for an answer? "He's probably just trying to figure things out again," he finally offered. "I'm sure given some time he'll be back to how you remember him," he comforted. At least he hoped so. He knew how much Marina had missed Logan and if she could get her friend back, things would be a bit easier for her.
Marina then went on to say that she had just wanted a normal life complete with kids, and to make sure that no one went through the same stuff that they had. She didn't want all the responsibilities she had ended up with. "I can certainly understand that. It's somewhat overwhelming at times," he agreed as he paused to take a drink. "But you being you is special. Don't let anyone ever tell you different," he added.
When she said that she had just needed to talk to someone, he nodded. "Yeah, me too. I'm still not really sure what I want to about Alex," he confessed. Then he rolled his eyes when she confessed that she wondered if she would wake up in a padded room. "Never happen. I wouldn't allow it and neither would Trenton or Diana," he assured. And they wouldn't. They would probably kill anyone who tried it. "Besides, with the way things are going, I'd probably be right there with you," he surmised and then smiled at the comment that she just needed some time to breathe. "Yeah, I hear that," he agreed. He had gotten used to the quiet of the past ten years. Now it would seem that things were being shaken up again...

She looked relieve at his comment, "It would be nice..." she looks at Luke a bit wide eyed, "Its just a bit...complicated, Luke. He remembers me being an angel. And evidently angels are paired up together to help each other out. Evidently I'm supposed to be paired with him..." she exhaled and folded her hands together, "There is this whole existence I can't quite remember, Luke."
She smiled softly, "Flatterer. You're the best brother ever." she grinned as she looked into his eyes, "You help me see through the complexities and just go down to the important factors." she grinned at him and relaxed gently, picking up her fork and nibbling on her meal.
"Just talk about what you feel comfortable with. Don't over think it just let the conversation go where it will. Don't worry about it." she advised gently, "Your head knows what you are ready to deal with. Trust it to know when the time is right. Believe me, I know its hard but there is a time for everything."

Luke took a drink and nodded sympathetically as Marina went on to say that things were complicated because Logan remembered her as an angel and that angels were often paired up together and that she and Logan were paired up. "What does that mean? Like romantically or something?" Luke asked. Was that even possible? How would they---Luke mentally shook his head before his thoughts could get anymore jumbled. There was no need to go there. Besides being incredibly gross to think of the woman who was his sister in everything but blood like that, it would make his head hurt.
He then smiled when she told him that he was the best brother she had and that he made her focus on the important issues. "Well I never saw the point in beating around the bush," he confessed. And it was true. Why pussyfoot around when getting straight to the point was so much easier? When she went on to advise him to just talk about what was comfortable with, he nodded in agreement. That made sense. After all, he couldn't really force the issue with Alex and he didn't want to bring up any of his old memories so he would just have to use his own discernment. "Yeah, you're right," he agreed, throwing her a soft smile. He knew it had been a good idea to talk to her.

"I don't know. I mean I wouldn't think so but I don't remember what it is to be an angel so I don't know." she ran a hand through her hair a moment after pushing her plate away from herself. "I just want it all to make sense, to belong somewhere for once without feeling like an outsider that is always looking in. I mean my head is always so full. Its like there are two sides that I'm trying to see at once." she sighed and felt her head throb, "I went from being completely cut off from the world to suddenly having 3 guys. One of whom came back from the dead. How the hell does that even happen?" she asks him plaintively.
"Well I'm glad I can give you some kind of help cause lord knows I can't manage my love life worth a darn." she exhaled and looked at her plate. Her appetite had been all over the place. At least some of the food was eaten. "Sometimes, I think my dad had the right idea. I mean look what happened when I was let out in the world..."

Luke fell silent as Marina replied that she didn't think so but that she didn't remember much about being an angel. He watched as she sighed and then pushed her plate away before saying that she wanted things to make sense and that she wanted to belong without feeling like an outsider. "I hear you," Luke agreed. There were times that he still felt like he didn't belong, that he was different from everyone else. And maybe he was, he wasn't sure, but whether he was or not, it still sucked. He let out a small laugh as she admitted that it felt like she was trying to see two sides at once. "That can be a pain," he agreed.
He then shrugged as she asked him how she had gone from being nobody in the world to suddenly being pursued by three different guys. "You got me," he answered honestly. It wasn't like he was exactly swimming in the dating pool. He had enough to do with the Seraphim Foundation and wasn't really looking for a girl. He then smiled at Marina as she said that she was glad she could help out a bit as she couldn't even manage her own love life but then frowned at the mention of her father. "Okay, a large part of that was his fault," he reminded. He had watched her turn into a semi-confident woman and he didn't want her regressing because someone was messing with her head. "Come on. What do you say we get out of here?" he suggested.
