Hunters
Apart from a few rare families like the Evanses and the Shields, the term hunter is usually used to describe any human who takes up arms against one or more of the supernatural species in an attempt to eradicate them. While there are those hunters who focus on one type of supernatural many have a wider range of species they will hunt.
The morals and ethics of hunters are as varied as the humans that take up this lifestyle and don't misunderstand, it IS a lifestyle. One that has destroyed families even as it makes them closer, often if only one member of a family is a hunter the rest of the family will wonder if they are cheating or doing drugs due to a hunter's erratic schedule and tendency to sleep during the day.
While some hunters see their job as a calling from God and part of their spiritual duty, others are just as likely to be unhinged humans looking for revenge or a serial killer who has found an outlet for their rage that no one will care goes missing. The line between monster and hunter is a fine one and can usually be defined by how much research a hunter does verses indescriminate wholesale slaughter. Even the most ethical hunter may engage in extermination if they come across more than one supernatural in their rounds of hunting, it is in fact rare for a hunter to attack one target at a time as doing such is time consuming and can cost more lives than just gearing up for world war three and blasting the hell out of their targets.
In all honestly there is nothing that says what hunters do is qualified as good. Many would like to think it is but if one were to delve into a hunter's psyche they might find the hunter enjoys killing a supernatural being almost as much as some, if not moreso supernatural beings enjoy hunting their kind or others. What truly sets a hunter apart is whether or not the targets they hunt are good or evil. A hunter that stalks a vampire that indiscriminately murders innocents would be considered good while a hunter that kills a witch who was just observing the vernal equinox and not harming anyone would be considered bad.
Care should be taken to know the difference when interacting with hunters. Even the other Supernatural species have hunters. Vampires have Enforcers that are their own kind or another supernatural who exist to make sure that those of their kind that risk exposing their secrets to humans are eradicated. Werewolves also employ this method when dealing with those who disobey pack rules.
Hunters often have technology on their side. From bullet proof vests to handy gadgets that release stakes into their hands, a truely skilled hunter has all the tools they need to finish the job. Hunters are often more physically fit than most people. They often work out for long hours or are training in hand to hand combat or martial arts of some type. Many know more than one fighting style or have an idetic memory to help them recall important details.
While most hunters do not have powers they may have the following abilities:
- Agility
- Stamina
- Eidetic Memory
A hunter that has more than these human traits or superhuman abilities usually comes from a gifted being who is a member of a hunter family. Their abilities have been honed through generations and they will often have similar abilities to the beings they hunt as a way to level the playing field.
