18 November 1888 Dear Diary, I find myself lost in a strange new world that is not my own. My life has always been out of the ordinary to be sure. The things I have seen no one would ever believe if I were to tell them so I must keep them in the silence that only a journal can bring. I hope that someday these words will give others comfort and bring hope in the darkness that seems to fill so many lives in these days of uncertainty.
I came here on accident and now I find myself stuck. The world is perched on one of its greatest moments of change and I have no one to speak of it. Its hard to believe that the world is hinged on such potential for good and evil but this coming century will bring some of the most profound changes it has ever seen. Hindsight is always 20/20 however and that is all I can say on this matter. We all live in the time we are meant to be and some of us live longer than others.
There is a reason for me to be here but I do not know what it is. I worry that it has yet to make itself known to me. Trenton does not recognize me and I suppose it is for the best. With his manic moments having sway I fear he would lose himself to it moreso and bring more danger to those around him. Although being friends with a vampire is hard for anyone when they like you it is especially hard when they see you just as a possible meal. For the moment I am safe in a home being looked after by Alfred my assistant. I still find it surprising that I have need of such things but given how busy my life tends to be I see the need for it. He has given me a list of the poor to visit when I am fully settled in. As I write this a bevy of maids unpack all sorts of clothing that looks alien to me but I have been assured is perfect for a lady of my station. I shall do what I can to ease the strain of others in this time of suffering when so few have so much and so many suffer in those places others wish could be forgotten. I must not lose my focus or shirk my duties to those who cannot help themselves. To this effect I shall offer my funds and abilities to the hospitals in this city. It is an honorable position of philanthropy that I undertake and I pray it will make up for the excesses of those whom I shall not name here. [/blockquote]
