She'd had a hard time sleeping. The events of the last few weeks had made it hard for her to find much peace when she closed her eyes. She still saw the bodies as they hauled their friends out of the rubble and the Powers that Be told her it was their time. She cried hard and broken as she realized that she couldn't help them. Even as another set of wings sprang from her back the tears flowed for the loss she'd experienced. She was grateful for her friends being in a better place but this human body made everything so much harder sometimes.
She kept moving, hopeful for the future but on a night like this, in her garden it was so hard. She prayed silently, for healing, for her friends and for the chance to see a bit of light in this very dark world she lived in. She exhaled and the smell of oranges filled her nostrils to sooth her as she tied her robe a little tighter around herself. She felt lonely and it wasn't helped by Logan being gone for ten years or her friends dying. She didn't even know where Rodney was not that she really kept obsessive tabs anyway, she was too busy for that. She had a new set of charges and no idea how to approach them. She was going to have to tomorrow anyway. The funeral for Cathrine was then and there was the wake. She sighed and hugged herself quietly as she looked st the moon.

The moon shouldn't be so bright. It was a strange thought for a vampire to have, but then again, this was a strange night. He and Marina had just fought one heck of a battle and had barely made it out themselves. Trenton's eyes clouded as he thought of the fellow vampires he had lost. Though not pack creatures like werewolves, a vampire still felt a sense of loss when one of their own died...especially if they had been fighting side-by-side. Trenton let out an unnecessary breath. It is hard to imagine that there used to be more vampires out at this time of night, he thought to himself. He glanced up at the moon and let out a snarl. The brightness of the night did not match his mood whatsoever and he hated that fact.
Spotting Marina, he walked up to her. "Bella," he whispered. If his heart was still beating, it would've broken. He did not like seeing her unhappy. Normally, he would've blissed the feeling away from her, but instincts told him that she needed this time to deal with her emotions, otherwise it would hit her harder and be far more worse.

She turned as she saw Trent appear in her garden, "Trent..." she went over and hugged him gently burying her head in his chest and knowing he must still be hurting from the battle, her energies went out to help heal him if she could, "Are you okay? I know you got hit pretty hard." she looked up at him sadly, "I'm sorry you lost friends. I know they meant a lot to you."
Her relationship with Trent was confusing at best. They weren't lovers-- She didn't have any of those, but they were very close and shared a lot with each other. She helped him find his humanity and slowly had been bringing it to the surface as the years passed with his consent. She was always mindful of the natural order of things and knew that even the most demonic of beings could be healed if the Powers that Be wished it to be so. And so she stood as a way for light and dark to meet and while they did not agree for causes like Armageddon or the Apocalypse they compromised. That was what she was here for. A woman raised by evil to understand it and see when it had nobility in it and appointed by heaven to be a bridge of sorts so that everyone knew what was going on.
As she looked at the moon she felt how small she was in this form. How insignificant humans must feel, for she had been human and made the transition to Angel because it was her destiny. Not that she minded. She loved her job and how she helped people. "How can i help you tonight?"

Marina turned around and hugged him, asking if he was okay and then saying that she knew he had been hit pretty hard. She also went on to apologize for his loss, saying that she knew that they had been friends. "Some. Not all, but...some," he allowed. From her body language, the vampire knew that she was more concerned with him than herself. They were not lovers, though Trenton sometimes wished they could be, but he would never push himself onto Marina. It was something she had had enough experience with, unfortunately, and he was not about to become one of those types of human.
Trenton followed Marina's gaze to the moon. "It should not be so bright tonight," he commented. "The night should be dark...we lost so many," he continued. When she asked him how she could help him, he let out an unnecessary breath. "I actually came to see if I could be of any help to you," he replied. While he could probably use some of Marina's special healing powers, he did not want to focus on that. Besides, even angels needed comforting sometimes...right?

"I'm sorry for your loss, Trent." she hugged him tightly and pressed her cheek against his lovingly. Trembling in his arms from sadness as she sighed and just let herself be herself with him as she had always done. He knew more about her than anyone, "I'm having the most irrational urges ever. I mean its just completely hormonal. The other day there was this woman in the park. She's Rodney's girlfriend and they had a little girl together. Well, I saw that little girl and I just wanted my own baby so bad it just felt like a weight was crashing over me. I just have never felt like that before. I wanted all these things and I don't even know if I can have them." her voice cracked slightly and she buried her head in his shoulders, "My friends are dead and all I'm wanting is what my brother has, marriage and someone to come home to...and kids...its just not like me. I know its a hormonal response to when people almost die. A way for their genetics to continue but still..." She rested her head against his shoulder, her eyes closed as she relaxed into his embrace and felt the chill of the evening, the moonlight making his mark stand out against her neck as she enjoyed his company. "My family history is way too messed up to have kids. I wouldn't want them to be ashamed of me." she said softly, her lower lip trembling.
"I'm sorry you lost so many, I know its hard. I don't think any humans except for a few actually understand. Rodney's girlfriend Mandy called me a thing. She thought I was a monster. That we're all monsters. I just...it hurt. It reminded me of when I was in school and we were poor and the kids called me retarded or cripple. I mean I'm friends with so many people it just hurts to see them in pain. I'm just glad you're here, Trent. You've always been here to put up with my ramblings and insecurities." she gently rubbed his arm and offered what comfort she could to him, "You don't think I'm a freak do you? For spending time with vampires even if I'm not one? Ai thinks I shouldn't be involved in politics with you as much. I just...I like being with you, spending time with you and Diana. I mean I know what you both are but Diana raised me and its just so hard...sometimes I don't feel like I fit in anywhere."

Trenton let Marina hug him tightly as she apologized for his loss. At her confession of having urges of wanting a family, his eyes clouded. "Bella, vampires...as far as I know....cannot reproduce," he said gently. Not that he had not tried. After all, he had been around for over a century. Even a vampire even got curious as to whether or not there was more than one way to create more of their species.
She went on to state that her friends were dead and that she was reacting as anyone would---wanting their legacy to continue. Trenton found himself wishing that he could make things better for her, but he knew that he could not. He did not have the power to raise the dead, and as far as he was concerned---aside from vampires---that what was dead should stay dead. There was no need to go mucking around with that kind of magic. "There are other ways. Adoption after all," Trenton supplied. He then shook his head when she said that she didn't want anyone to be ashamed of her. "No one could ever be ashamed of you, Bella. You have always been so strong," he reminded her.
Marina went on, apologizing for Trenton's loss and then commented that not many humans understood. Trenton's eyes flashed at Marina's revelation of what her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend had called her and how she had made her feel. I should rip her to pieces, he thought to himself. However, he knew that would not do any good. "I am sorry she was so ignorant, Bella. You have never been a thing in my eyes. You are a beautiful woman that any man---mortal or otherwise---would be proud to know," he responded.

Mari nodded as she continued to hug him and closed her eyes, "I kind of figured as much. Although Diana acted like vampires could have sex so now I'm really confused. Not that I'm looking for sex its just hard to puzzle out." she added as she looked up at him and smiled shyly. She shrugged her shoulders lightly and nodding, "I just got mad because here she is complaining and she has Rodney and a beautiful baby girl and all she could do is take shots at me." she exhaled, "I know the feelings will pass. This is better for me. I help people; its good." she felt herself calm as she pulled herself together to keep him from getting too angry with Mandy and doing something rash.
To the comment of being ashamed she shook her head, "Society judges me differently granted now I'm an old spinster but they think I'm just some eccentric billionaire with too much time on her hands." she exhaled softly, "Its nice that you think I'm strong though. Right now I want to just curl up and cuddle till I fall asleep." she admitted as she looked at him and smiled, "If you wanted to. We could go to your house." she said softly so he could feel safer and less likely to have someone open the curtains on him in the morning. "You flatter me Trent." she said softly as she pressed against him gently. "I just need to forget about her for a while. There are more important things to think on." she exhaled and closed her eyes as she leaned into his embrace and just enjoyed being with him.
"You are one of the constants in my life and I treasure that, Trenton. I'm tired of losing people I care about. Please promise me you will be careful. I couldn't bear losing you. I think it would be the end of me if something happened to you." she hugged him fiercely, her recent losses tugging at her and the strain telling on her. She was so fragile right now it was like she was spun glass that could be molded into something with the right nudging. It scared her and made her cling to what was safe and familiar, or at very least familiar, even Trent had an agenda. She wasn't so niaeve as to not see it.
She had to be careful. Not that he would hurt her, she doubted he'd do that, but he'd want her to marry him and settle down. It was easy at first to put him off. There was her feelings for Rodney and then there was Logan, they had been the excuse she used in her own mind for avoiding marrying him. Deep down she was afraid. Afraid of what might happen. Assuming the Father allowed such a thing and didn't punish her, there was the issue of sex, something she'd not even wanted really. Oh she had urges when Trenton bit her, that was without question, but she refused to act on them. She didn't want to risk Trenton being in pain for trying such a thing. She couldn't bear that.
And that was what hurt. The idea that she might hurt someone she cared about or that she was being selfish in wanting something for herself. She didn't even know if Trenton felt these same ethical issues. After all she wasn't sure if her healings were doing any good. She'd been afraid to see if he'd actually had a soul. After all, could a souless person truely love?
It made her head reel. Trent loved her and he gave up a lot because of her, he wasn't getting sex, he wasn't married to her and he often fought on the side of good to protect her. He was in a sense, being ethical. He refused to force the issue, refused to push past her comfort zone even if it was what he wanted. Wasn't that what an en-souled person did? Sacrifice for the good of others and not just themselves?

Trenton nodded and then let out a chuckle at Marina's comment about sex. "Yes, that is true. While we can engage in the physical pleasure of sex, we do not have the capability of producing anything viable," he told her. Which was actually a good thing. Trenton did not even want to comprehend the chaos that some vampires could have caused if they were able to reproduce.
Trenton nodded in sympathy at her complaint about Mandy. "She does not realize all she has. Humans are not quite affected by the loss as other creatures are," he stated. Not that it made the girl right. There was a time when Trenton had wanted to marry Marina, and at times, still did, but Marina had not indicated wanting anything of the sort, so he had never pressed it and the the thought that someone would complain to Marina about having the very thing that Marina was wanting, made the vampire want to rip something apart and Trenton was actually proud of himself for not just flying into a rage like he would have ten years ago, but he was not going to call attention to it.
At her mention of what society thought of her, Trenton smirked. "Well, you are the hottest spinster I have ever known," he told her At her admission of just wanting to cuddle up and sleep, he nodded in understanding. "I do not blame you for feeling that way," he said. Maybe I should take her to my house, he thought to himself. It was out of the way and no one would bother her there. Almost as if she had read his mind, she suggested going to his place. "That is a good idea. It is quiet and no one will bother you," he told her.
When Marina said that she needed to forget about Mandy because there were more important things to think about, Trenton reached over to grab her hand. "Exactly. Like making sure you don't decapitate her where she stands," he said semi-jokingly. Then, after her comment, "Nothing will happen to me, Bella. I promise you." Trenton looked at Marina, trying to gauge what she was thinking. At one time, he would have considered invading her thoughts, but that had been when he did not know her very well. But after getting to know her, he had vowed to never invade her privacy. But still, he had to admit to himself, he was curious as to what she was thinking at this moment.

"Well thats good to know I guess." she laughed softly, blushing crimson. Trent was definitely tempting and it was hard to resist his charms especially after ten years. Still, when she thought about the act of sex it made her cringe. Not because it was with Trent but because of her past with her father and the things he had done to her. "I don't even know if I'm allowed to get married as an angel. I mean it doesn't do me any good to do so if I get recalled back to heaven for being bad." she looked up at him and hugged him tightly, "Its so hard to know what to do, Trent. I don't mean to be confusing to you." she pressed against him tightly and let him see how she was feeling.
"Well thank you for thinking me hot." she said with a blush to her cheeks as she snuggled against him, "We should go then. Its late and I don't know how long I can keep my eyes open." she joked as she twined her fingers in his, touching his cheek as she looked into his eyes, "Thank you."
"Oh nothing so drastic, Trenton. My feelings are hurt but its just a minor thing she has probably forgotten about." she said as she hugged him again, "I was just wondering if you were starting to gain a soul, Trent. We've been together a long time and my powers are of the nature to heal such things. I was wondering how much I had helped you. I mean I know you love me and that has to count for something." she said as she pressed her forehead against his, "You feel things so intensely. How to you stand it? There are times when I can feel your emotions and desires screaming to claw their way to the surface and yet you've always been so calm and gentle with me. I've never felt anything half as intense as you have. I just can't imagine it, everything being so heightened like it is for you." she looked into his eyes and hugged him tightly. "I am so lucky to have you in my life."

Trenton found himself staring at Marina. She really had no idea how beautiful she was. Sure many girls and young women were constantly throwing themselves at him---even without compulsion---but none of them could hold a candle to his Bella. Which is why he usually turned them down...unless he was making a meal of them of course. When she mentioned her uncertainty regarding marriage and not wanting to get sent back to Heaven for being bad and that she was sorry for confusing him, he shook his head. "I have not thought of marriage in a long time," he answered honestly. Not since the last time they had had the conversation. He knew that Marina had never desired marriage before, though it would appear that she had obviously thought about it recently. "And you could never be bad, Bella. It is not possible with you," he added.
Then she suggested that they go in. "If that is what you desire," Trenton agreed and then leaned into her touch. Oh, he had missed being touched like this---being loved like this.
He then smirked at her reaction and her comment on how she wondered if he had a soul or not. "In some ways yes, some ways no. I am still a vampire," he reminded. At her question about how he dealt with his inense emotions, he felt silent. How could he explain it in a way that would not cause her to run screaming from him? "It is hard at times to push what I feel down. It is my nature to act and react on my nature. But I would never want to hurt you, which is why I force the desires down," he finally answered.

"I didn't want to be sent away. I always worried about it, plus you had enough offers that I didn't want to hinder you if you needed to make an alliance." she said softly as she leaned into him, "I would rather be here like this than do something that causes me to get called back and I never see you again." he had done so much for her through the years. How could she not be mindful of it? After Logan had died she'd given up on finding anyone and turned to Trent as a shelter from hurting so much. "You put up with so much from me."
"I just want to curl up with you at your home." she said as she prepped for him to scoop her up and take her to his home. She rested her head on his shoulder as they traveled to his home. She let him lead her where he would. After ten years her nerves had gone away.
"Well you have amazing self control and I am grateful for it." she said as he brought her to his home. She looked about at the familiar place and relaxed. For her, this was a place where she didn't have to worry or think about everything that weighed on her mind. She could relax and just enjoy his company.

Trenton scowled at the reminders of the marriage offers he had gotten over the years. "So not cool," he muttered, using a phrase he had picked up during his cover at a local college ten years earlier. "I thought we agreed not to mention those," he continued. Honestly, some girls and women of this time had seemed to forgotten the meaning of the word 'No', not that he usually minded, but...that was besides the point.
When she mentioned that she would rather be here than be called back and never see him again, he nodded. "I much prefer that myself," he agreed. And that was why he would never force her to go against her nature. Well, one of the reasons, anyway.
He then shook his head when she said that he put up with so much from her. "Other way around, Bella," he responded. It was she who put up with the crap he pulled, but she never complained. Get in his face and sometimes call him an idiot, yes, but she never complained.
"Then we shall go there," he determined, scooping her into his arms. He hurried towards his place, going as fast as his speed would allow without making Marina dizzy. Within seconds they were at his home and he opened the door and stepped through the threshold.
"You are most welcome for it," he responded, placing her on the couch.

She nodded and nuzzled his cheek gently, "Forgive me for bringing up a bad subject." she said softly to him as she curled into him a little more. She didn't want him to think she was being pushy. This was weeks before Pyriel or Logan and so for this moment all she knew was him. Philip was who knows where, he was always sporadic at best and so while he tended to make a memorable entrance when he did arrive he wasn't a constant presence.
Nodding she hugged him tighter and relaxed as she felt her sorrow ease with him there. "You aren't that bad. We fight and make up and it works out." Truth was he usually bit her to win the fights and make her relax but her mind didn't always remember that. She did worry about it but she hoped that he would not feel the need to resort to it given that she rarely left L.A. the fact was that Trenton left the city more than she did. She kept to her home and her projects and still kept to a mostly night schedule to accommodate Trent when he wanted to spend time with her.
Relaxing on the couch she looked up at him, the furniture in the room had shifted to reflect the times but the people remained the same. Sighing softly she just wanted to unwind and not worry so much. Her head rested on the arm of the couch and she looked to him as he settled in. There were subtle signs she spent time here, there was food in the fridge and appliances for cooking as well as a tea set. He'd even given her her own room so if she needed to shut the world out she could. It was there she kept a laptop and a cork board with notes on supernatural activity. She figured it helped Trent to know what was going on because even though she tended to fight the supernatural the vampires of L.A. knew if they harmed a child or kidnapped someone they were going to be on their Princess's hit list. Never a good thing. When the Princess was unhappy no one was happy.
She supposed she should be happy. Diana wanted her to marry Trenton still and would occasionally ask after it, but since Marina had never left L.A. or Trent she was content to give the occasional wistful request. Marina lived a very interesting life shuttling from her home, to her mothers to Trent's but it was actually the closest she could manage to a normal life after Rodney left and Logan had died. She had even had time to visit Rodney from time to time when he came into town or he had free time and could have a visitor wherever he was staying. It had been awkward at first and still could be. Her first instinct after he had told her he had gotten Mandy pregnant was to run away and cry and she had for days but it was Rodney and after she had taken time to process what he had done and had seen what Mandy gained from it she had to admit she had the better life. Mandy only had Rodney. That was all near as she could tell. Mari had Trent, and all of her friends. Heck, she even had Philip on occasion.
Exhaling she shook her head, "Sorry for woolgathering. Was counting my blessings." she admitted as she looked up at Trent and smiled happily.

Trenton shook his head at Marina's apology of bringing up a bad subject. "There is no need to apologize. I know you are only teasing," he assured. When she hugged him tighter and said that he wasn't that bad and that they always made up, he let out a small smile. "This is true," he agreed.
He saw her looking around his home, which was cluttered by vampire standards, but by human standards, it was pretty sparse. The living room had shelves of books that appeared to be books by human artists, but most actually held various weapons in case he needed to attack or defend himself. However, some books were just that: books. After all, Marina often spent time here and she needed something to do besides waiting for him at times.
When she apologized saying that she was counting her blessings, he smiled at her. "It is not a problem, Bella. Am I to hope I am one of those blessings?" he asked.

"Yes, I like teasing you because I know I can get away with it." she said with a smirk as she looked at him and they curled up together. She hadn't been wearing her braces so it was easy to tuck her feet under the blanket and relax with him, her head against his chest as he relaxed with her. Looking at him she smiled softly, "Well someone has a way of cutting through my arguments." she teased as she nuzzled his cheek, "And its an unfair advantage I think." she said lightly.
She grinned at him and her eyes twinkled daring him to do something about it. "And yes, you are one of those blessings." she said as she lifted her head up and kissed him lightly, "I'd hardly not think of you when counting those." she said honestly as she looked into his eyes and touched his cheek, "We've known each other a long time. Though not long by some standards." she cuddled up against him and sighed happily in his arms as they rested on the couch.
